vfr arrival Airport sponsor published verified 2026-08-28 (51 d ago)
Published by the airport sponsor; voluntary unless ATC assigns it. If ATC assigns this route to you in Class B, C or D airspace, that assignment is an ATC instruction and compliance is required (14 CFR 91.123) — and “unable” remains available to the pilot in command.
Arrival altitudes by entry point — Alondra Park at or above 1,500 ft, 2,500 ft until east of the 405 — with the pattern turning base over the golf course.
The route
- From Alondra Park: cross at or above 1,500 ft MSL and descend to 1,100 ft MSL prior to entering downwind
- From the west/southwest transitions: proceed directly to Alondra Park and remain at or above 2,500 ft MSL until east of the 405 Freeway; contact the tower as soon as practical after leaving the transition routes over LAX and departing King Harbor
- From the south: remain east of the 110 Freeway at or above 1,500 ft MSL until turning final
- From the east: remain at or above 1,500 ft MSL until crossing the 110 Freeway, and remain south of the 105 Freeway
- Traffic pattern: runway heading until 500 ft AGL or the Hawthorne Mall; crosswind over Hawthorne Blvd; downwind over El Segundo Blvd at 1,100 ft MSL; base over the golf course within 1 mile of the east boundary, traffic permitting
Where it actually is
North up. The sponsor names these landmarks and publishes no coordinate for any of them — everything positioned here is derived, and each coordinate's provenance is listed with its point below. Dashed markers are depicted: this site's reading of the written route, not published fixes.
- From the south and west: cross at or above 1,500, descend to 1,100 before downwind Alondra Park A large park with its lake and golf course 2.4 statute miles south of the field — the one piece of open green in the grid down there, and the arrival gate from the west and south. satellite Apple Maps street view coordinate: OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL)
- From the west transitions: at or above 2,500 until east of the 405 I-405 west of the field The San Diego Freeway, 1.7 statute miles west. Arrivals from the west hold 2,500 ft MSL until east of it. A line, not a point. satellite Apple Maps street view coordinate: OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL) (nearest point on I-405 to the airport reference point)
- From the west: after the LAX transition and King Harbor, call the tower King Harbor The Redondo Beach marina 4.7 NM south-southwest down the coast, the departure point of the western transition route into Hawthorne. satellite Apple Maps street view coordinate: OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL)
- Crosswind over Hawthorne Blvd Hawthorne Boulevard CA 107, the main north-south arterial three quarters of a mile west of the field. A LINE, not a point: the runway 25 crosswind and the runway 7 right base are both flown over it, to put the noise on the road rather than the houses. This pin is where it passes abeam the field. satellite Apple Maps street view coordinate: OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL) (nearest point on Hawthorne Blvd to the airport reference point)
- Downwind over El Segundo Blvd at 1,100 MSL El Segundo Boulevard The east-west arterial 0.45 statute miles south of the field. Both runways fly the downwind over it. A line, not a point. satellite Apple Maps street view coordinate: OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL)
- Base over the golf course, within a mile of the east boundary Chester Washington Golf Course Open fairways 0.8 statute miles east of the RWY 25 threshold — the golf course both procedures mean. Runway 25 turns base over it and runway 7 turns right 45 over it. satellite Apple Maps street view coordinate: OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL)
- From the east: at or above 1,500 until crossing the 110, south of the 105 I-710 at I-105 The Long Beach Freeway / Century Freeway interchange, 7.8 NM east of the field. VFR arrivals from the east plan to arrive over it and call the tower before reaching it. The 110 crossing gate itself is not pinned -- see the airport note. satellite Apple Maps street view coordinate: OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL) (computed crossing of I-710 and I-105)
This entry describes several named routes, so the landmarks are plotted and no single track is drawn. Bearings are magnetic, converted from true at each leg's midpoint through the WMM 2025 model this site ships (11.3°E here). Shoreline, water, highways and runways © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).
